Chain Lakes Loop

During our trip to Washington, I took the 3 oldest kids on a short backpacking trip I’ve been looking at for a couple years. Papa Penning, Uncle Brian, and Brooklynn came with us too. Much of the Chain Lakes Loop is in the Mt. Baker Wilderness. We spent two days camped between Hayes Lake and Arbuthnot Lake. Weather was great, and the area is beautiful, with views of both Mt. Baker and Mt. Shuksan along the trail.

  1. “You guys are raising your kids right.” I had that thought while reading this post and thought I should share it since it was positive! I’ve been reading the blog for a few years now, and really enjoy how much you take the kids out into the wilderness. You are doing a great thing, raising your large family how you are. I can’t wait to eventually start my adoption journey, my husband and I aren’t quite there yet so I am living vicariously through blogs, one of which is yours!

  2. I love these photos and that location looks amazing! That’s the sort of terrain I want at my backyard all the time! Let’s convince the family to all move up to the Northwest!

  3. @Darin: right on! It really was an amazing place; makes Las Vegas look pretty lame by comparison. But, this particular loop is only accessible to hikers for 3 months a year, so I guess warmth has its benefits too. :)
